Classic homemade beef burgers with chips
Proper beef burgers you squash together yourself, topped with melting cheese and stacked how each person likes them, with a tray of oven chips.
Ingredients
- 500 g Beef mince, ideally 15-20% fat
- 2 g Salt
- 1 g Black pepper
- 10 ml Vegetable oil
- 80 g Cheddar, sliced
- 4 Burger buns, split
- 750 g Oven chips
- 1 Onions, thinly sliced into rings
- 0.5 Lettuce, leaves separated
- 2 Tomatoes, sliced
- 60 g Ketchup
Method
- Heat the oven to 220°C (200°C fan) and cook the chips on a large tray, following the packet timings (usually about 25 minutes).
- Season the mince with the salt and pepper, divide it into 4 and shape each into a patty a little wider than the buns, pressing a dip into the middle with your thumb so they stay flat as they cook.
- Heat the oil in a large frying pan over a medium-high heat and fry the burgers until well browned and cooked right through with no pink in the middle, turning once.
- Lay the cheese on top of the burgers for the last minute, with a lid on the pan so it melts.
- Toast the cut sides of the buns in the pan. Put out the onion, lettuce, tomato and ketchup so everyone can build their own, and serve with the chips.
