Baked macaroni cheese
Creamy cheese sauce, tender macaroni and a crunchy golden top. Pure comfort for fussy and non-fussy eaters alike.
Ingredients
- 350 g Macaroni
- 40 g Butter
- 40 g Plain flour
- 700 ml Milk
- 200 g Cheddar, grated
- 3 g English mustard
- 2 Tomatoes, sliced, for the top
- 40 g Breadcrumbs
- 250 g Broccoli, cut into small florets
- 2 g Salt
- 1 g Black pepper
Method
- Heat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan). Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water for 2 minutes less than the pack says, then drain.
- Melt the butter in a large pan, stir in the flour for a minute, then add the milk gradually, whisking until smooth. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Off the heat, stir in two-thirds of the cheese, the mustard, salt and pepper, then fold in the macaroni.
- Tip into a baking dish, lay the tomato slices on top and sprinkle with the breadcrumbs and remaining cheese.
- Bake for 20 minutes until bubbling and golden. Steam the broccoli for the last 5 minutes to serve alongside.
